universities.
- Hackett sees art as a verb not a noun as he says it is an active process.
- He uses silicone mould casts of items to create his large scale sculptures.
- His work is mainly surrealism to replace the everyday familiar by creating something different.
- Hackett produces many of the same item for some sculptures and only one for others, his work can also be interactive to the public.
- An example of his work is the Jelly shoe project, exhibited as 'Once is an accident, twice is a revolution' this exhibition was made up of silicone mould of children's jelly shoes he had found on the streets, the first jelly shoe he found was near a lake in France. Over the course of three months he had collected around 20-30 jelly shoes. Some of the moulds he made were duplicates to show pairs of shoes not jut single shoes. This work was displayed in a large circle on the floor at the Northampton museum and art gallery.
- The shaggy dog experiment was designed to be interactive for the public, he created a yellow silicone dog and placed it in a wheelbarrow. He then walked around various parks wheeling the dog in the wheelbarrow and he would not speak to passersby unless they first interacted with him first. This project was designed to show the communication to others that owning a dog can bring/create.
- The overall function of Hacketts work is to communicate with the viewers of his work and to get them to interact and become part of the sculptures themselves, the way he thinks and comes up with the ideas for his sculptures are very unique and the end results are something that people have not seen before. I think he is trying to communicate that sculptures can be interactive aswell as something you can just look at. He is getting local communities involved with his experiments by doing this with his work.
